Ascensions Quest Play

Getting in

Join the climb

Ascensions Quest runs on Minecraft: Java Edition and needs nothing installed. No mod loader, no custom launcher, no downloads. Add the server and connect.

Connecting

The address is ascensions.quest. Any version from Java 1.21.11 to 26.1 connects, though the newest release is what the server is built against.

Two things worth knowing before you spawn in.

  1. Accept the resource pack

Say yes when the server offers it. The pack draws the custom items, the mob models and the interface. Without it the game still runs, but it looks like vanilla Minecraft wearing a costume.

  2. Play the tutorial

It is short, and it teaches the four things the rest of the Tower assumes you already know: how gear is identified, how attributes are spent, how quests point you, and what the Tower claims to be.

Your first hour

What actually happens

You are handed a broken helmet

And a Tome to reveal it. Gear arrives unidentified in the Tower and you cannot wear what you have not read. This is the first lesson and it never stops applying.

You meet the Hermit

The only permanent resident of Floor 1, who points newcomers uphill and not much else. Climbers never used to come through his forest. Lately they arrive almost daily, and it unsettles him.

You spend your first attribute point

Then find a skill gem, slot it, and discover the build you were going to make needs a stat you didn't take. That is the game.

Questions

Do I need mods?

No. Everything runs server-side. Join with the ordinary Minecraft launcher and accept the resource pack when the server offers it.

Which versions can connect?

Java Edition Java 1.21.11 to 26.1. Newer is better, but anything in that range works.

Does it work on Bedrock, console or mobile?

Not currently. Ascensions Quest is Java Edition only. The custom interface, item models and skill systems depend on Java-side features that have no Bedrock equivalent, so supporting it would mean building a second, worse version of the game.

Is it pay to win?

No, and it is not going to be. Nothing that affects combat is for sale. Founding-player recognition is cosmetic and historical: a title and a place in the record, never a permanent advantage over somebody who arrived later.

Is the server finished?

No. Four floors of a hundred are authored and playable end to end. The systems underneath are live and being tuned: gear, skills, quests, crafting, dungeons. We are in early access on purpose and would rather you arrive knowing that.

Do I lose my progress when new floors open?

Not as a matter of course. During early access there may be resets if a systems change makes old characters incoherent, and if that happens it will be announced beforehand with a reason, not sprung on you.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. It is a multiplayer server. The floors are shared spaces, and dungeons are instanced so a group gets its own copy.

Something is broken. Where do I report it?

Bug reports are the single most useful thing you can give us right now. See the project page for where they go.

See you on Floor 1
